To have healthy hair, you need a healthy and stimulated scalp! This is at the heart of the concept of holistic hair beauty, which is an awareness that the beauty of hair comes from our inner well-being and the health of our scalp, in addition to the healthy products we use.
I met Anaïs Guez, holistic hair beauty expert and founder of the Holistic Room studio, who shares with us her valuable advice for performing exceptional self-massages and stimulating your scalp with ease.
Why stimulate your scalp?
Anaïs Guez reminds us that the entire capillary part outside the skull is dead, so for our hair to be much stronger and denser, the scalp must be healthy. By stimulating your scalp with massages, you will stimulate blood circulation. Through this micro-circulation, the blood will bring the hair bulbs the nutrients and oxygen they need so much.
"The more the scalp is stimulated by massages, the more toned your hair will be, the more it will grow back." Anaïs Guez
How to stimulate your scalp yourself?
Scalp massage can be done in different ways:
- brushing
- self-massage
Here's how to do it in detail in the following sections!
Every evening: brush your hair gently
According to Anaïs, every gesture, even the simplest one like brushing your hair, must be imbued with gentleness and kindness. Gentle brushing delicately stimulates the scalp, eliminating impurities at the same time. Styling your hair is important from an energetic point of view because it also allows you to let go. It also allows sebum to be brought back to the hair and to coat it more.
- Brush your hair starting at the nape of your neck , then working your way up to the sides.
- Start from the root to stimulate blood circulation and the scalp.
- Enjoying this ritual is essential , it should never be a constraint. Transform it into a moment of relaxation and connection with yourself: a candle, music.
- The recommended brush : a very soft brush, which does not break the hair fiber. For my part, I use the Bonne Brosse n°3 for sensitive scalps , perfect for detangling my hair very simply and without pain, ideal for my very sensitive scalp and my alopecia!
2-3 times a week: self-massage your scalp
Hair self-massage is an essential step to revitalize your hair and nourish your mind. I have been doing it for several years, when I switched to a natural treatment for my alopecia . Here is now the exceptional self-massage ritual proposed by Anaïs Guez, which you can do easily at home and which I have now adopted!
- Duration: 5 minutes
- Frequency: 2-3 times a week - to be included at the end of your shampoo or to be done whenever you feel like it.
- Position: Sitting comfortably, shoulders relaxed
Here we go, we proceed from the nape of the neck to the top of the skull to bring our energy up to our crown chakra:
- Start by massaging your neck to release tension. Doing this before you have neck pain helps prevent tension and avoid it.
- Then massage your scalp above the nape of the neck with the pads of your fingers. You should not rub the scalp but rather move the skin with your fingers.
- Then move up to the sides and continue over the entire scalp. Focus on the thinner areas.
- Take a few strands of hair and twist them slightly to lift the root, without hurting it.
- Stimulate the 3 Marma points at the top of the skull (Ayurvedic reflex points) to rebalance energies and promote healthy hair growth: place the palm of your right hand on your forehead, blocked between the two eyes and the top of the nose.
Marma Point 1: Place your middle finger on top of your skull without moving your palm: it arrives at your first Marma point, which you will stimulate with pressure and a small circle in a clockwise direction for less than a minute.
Marma Point 2: Then position your index finger just behind your middle finger on the top of the skull. Remove the middle finger and stimulate this second Marma point with your index finger.
Marma Point 3: Then put the middle finger back on the top of the skull next to the index finger, add the ring finger in front of the middle finger. Remove the middle finger and index finger and stimulate this third point with the ring finger.
The self-massage ends after bringing your energy back to your 3 Marma points. You are relaxed, your scalp is stimulated.
Remember that the results are not immediate. From the first day you will feel energetic benefits, but the visible transformation of your hair will require 21 days. Be patient and continue to cultivate this beautiful relationship with your hair, because it deserves your unconditional love.
